A baby girl’s earthly life began 7 months ago. I recently knit a sweater, cap, and bootees from
my mother’s old-fashioned knitting patterns and gave them to her mother today
at a baby shower. It was a time to
celebrate beginnings: a baby girl’s conception, her forthcoming delivery and emergence,
the dawn of a family.
Pregnancy is like an introduction - a foreword or preface,
the front matter of human life - in that it declares the beginning of a unique person with a story like none other on earth. It is a privilege to be included in this phase, and I hope to continue to be part of this baby's story in the chapters soon to follow.
