Foggy Morning

White fog rolls o’er the lake,
Breathed long and slow and steady
Like warm breath in winter
With no beginning and no end.

It pushes on with stealthy rolls,
And blocks my view of trees and shore
‘Till images no longer speak
And I become both stopped and blind.

Tranquility consumes my eyes,
Although I never know
This kind of quiet from within
Where noises have their way.

It’s thicker now and heavier,
A blanket placed with care
To smooth rough edges
And cover earth with peace.
