7:00 a.m. Monday Morning Press Release

GRANDSON SAGA REPORT - First a quick update for those who have been following Troy’s hospitalization story in recent blogs. He is at home now, without ever having received a diagnosis from the professionals at Children’s Memorial Hospital. Symptoms seem worse in the mornings and better in the afternoons, leading his parents to assume inflammation from a fall last Monday could be the elusive culprit. Unless there’s a radical shift in symptomatic patterns or severity, Troy will not see the doctor again for two weeks. Hopefully during that time he’ll stabilize and his recent leg weakness and bowel issues will be behind him!

MONDAY MORNING RETREAT MODE – I’m fortunate to be able to remain at the lake house in Michigan by myself for a few days while Fritz, the ol’ work horse, is currently driving his 15-year-old Villager on the 3-hour trek back to his classes at Purdue. A friend from church loaned me a couple of encouraging books yesterday, so I intend to stick my nose in them for most of the day. Otherwise I’ll probably write (a no-brainer), and walk (stir the blood a little), and generally play hookie from responsibility! The lake is gloriously calm and peaceful this morning – a good place for retreat.

FRIEND TO VISIT SOON – Another friend from church here in Michigan is having some extensive foot surgery this morning; she’ll be coming over tomorrow to stay with me in our one-story lake house during her initial few days of recuperation. It will be a chance for some good “girl time.” She’s a big fish eater, and we have plenty of lake fish in the freezer, so we’re good to go. In the past I forced some carrot juice down her, and she’s already made her statement about that: NO MORE. However, she’s also been forewarned about Green Lemonade and is prepared to give it the old college try, as the saying goes. (Definition of “old college try” from the Urban Dictionary: A demonstration of intent to half-ass a given project, and an indication that the project might come to fruition, but more likely won’t.)

COUNTING CHICKENS – All-of-a-sudden yesterday I had one of those gear-grinding senior moments, and realized how easy it has become to over-evaluate, over-emotionalize, over-react in just about every possible way. While the onset of these blow-outs can sometimes be rationally explained (although not always), I made an intentional decision to stop trying to count those chickens that aren’t hatched yet; to trust the yolks to develop in their own time and do a better job of living in the moment.
