Going Back

The lake smells like childhood this evening, as steady breezes scuff waves and bathe my face.  It won’t let me be as old as I am, as stiff and elderly, but insists on playing hide and seek with the child I used to be, on carrying me back to liberation with each little swell.

I don’t resist, but play along and find myself anew.
