The Nutcracker Ballet cast a magical spell
over me six decades ago. Today’s performance called me back
to my early enchantment, back to wonder and beauty and awe.
What is it about Christmas Eve, gifts,
finery, and children with their fantastic dreams - and the strength and agility
of the human body responding in dance to a live orchestra - that gets under my
skin? There are layers, here.
It seems I peek into something deeper
than mere fantasy as I watch events unfold on stage at the Stahlbaum
house. Joy and commitment reign in the
face of inevitable obstacles. Creativity
and artistic expression beat a steady pulse: exhilaration.
Disciplined poise and grace seem to
take my hand and call me out of limitation to an internal dance floor. It is all fantastic and mystical, and yet
also very real.
