St. Innocent

St. Innocent Orphanage in Mexico provides a loving home for 24 previously abandoned boys.  It is named after St. Innocent of Alaska, A Russian Orthodox missionary priest who authored many early scholarly texts about the natives of Alaska in the 1800’s.  He also studied their spoken languages and developed grammars for them, translating parts of the Bible into several of these languages.

I have great respect for St. Innocent and his legacy. The following quote sums up his perspective for the season of Lent: deny self by giving up bad habits, dig out heart-roots bound to the temporal, release bad thoughts and desires, suppress evil thoughts, and act not out of self love but do everything out of love for God.
