After months of separation, it only took a short time to remember how it used to be. Yesterday we were once again in the swing of things with the animal puzzles we’d worked countless times when she lived here, back when she was tiny and barely able to hold the pieces - puzzles that over time sealed our special relationship. We repeated the routine of looking on the reverse sides of pieces for coded symbols, turning them over and remembering the focal points of each picture, and then fitting the shapes together.
Her
eagerness, and my response to it, reinstated our unique puzzle-bond that remained
despite geographical distance and elapsed time.
After only a few minutes of connection amidst the familiar pieces, this
four-year-old was glued to her sixty-five-year-old Nana. It only
took this little bit of a girl to fill the spot in Nana that had been waiting.
Sometimes a little bit seems like a lot.
