This evening I made Christopsomo (pronounced hree-STOHP-soh-moh, translated “Christ’s Bread”.) The ingredients included such novelties as crushed anise seed, brandy, and red wine.
Historically, this bread is a sacred Christmas tradition in Greek Orthodox Christian homes. The excellent quality of ingredients and exquisite care with which the bread is made is said to reflect the blessings of God in the year to come.
