Kalamazoo, a city (3 times the size of Lafayette!) big on promoting the performing arts. we were invited to attend a musical at the New Vic Theatre last weekend, and another last night at Farmers Alley Theatre. I love the emphasis on REAL PEOPLE performing with REAL TALENT in a day and age when technology’s special effects and artificial realities are such the recreational norm. Blah. You can’t beat the connection of real-life acting and singing – real people doing what they’re gifted to do in ways that reach out and touch the audience.
Last night’s show was called, “A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline.” We listened to oldies-but-goodies like “Your Cheatin’ Heart” and of course “Crazy” as performed by a Patsy Cline look-alike, Lana Hawkins. WHAT A VOICE that girl has! Our friend/host had kindly reserved front row seats because of my hearing issues, and we enjoyed the company of 4 other couples who are also good friends. A great night on the town....
