As I walked through the kitchen on my way elsewhere, I suddenly
stopped, dead in my tracks. What
was THAT? A skinny green spire
rose from a stainless steel bowl on top of the refrigerator. It seemed intent on reaching the
ceiling (and maybe beyond), and looked much too healthy to be growing in this
sunless spot. Perhaps it was ready
to curl into an invasive vine like Jack’s Beanstalk? It was obviously very alive with delicate, almost perfect
form.
Half expecting something beyond my comfort zone, I reached
for the bowl (having no recollection of putting anything in it) and investigated. SWEET POTATOES!
They were very eager to live. They became oven fries for dinner.
