"The miracle is not that we do this work, that that we are happy to do it." - Mother Teresa
I know what it’s like to start out with a noble goal in mind
– maybe a selfless one of service to others, one that surpasses common or expected
goodness. It’s induced by
inspiration to love differently; to become yeast in the common lump; to glow like a steady flame in a dark spot.
And then opposition slinks through the cracks, serpent-like. Cold accusation kills the yeast,
deflating its potential. Windy hostility
extinguishes the flame. The slithering adversary invites dour discouragement, and
hopes to derail motivation.
This is a time to refocus, to trust the divinely inspired
mercy that created the vision of service in the first place. To thrive under pressure and expect the
original goal, and the passion that inspired it, to continue to materialize.
“We are happy to do it,” says Mother Teresa, knowing glad satisfaction
lies imbedded in toil when done in the name of divine love.
Yeast swells. Fire
blazes. Love prevails. It’s
miraculous.
