Rode Hard and Put Away Wet

Before the days of automobiles, everyone knew what “rode hard and put away wet” meant.  A horse had been "rode hard" when it was ridden fast and/or over a long distance, and it was "put away wet" when it was returned to the stable or corral without having sweat wiped off.

Now back to the old saying! It was a successful day, and memorable.  And yet I’m feeling a little bit like an old hag that’s been “rode hard and put away wet."  As such, I can’t wait to hit the hay.
