I turn from to-do lists and clocks to sprawl on the
grass behind sunglasses, incognito. A
sky-watcher.
Trapped sighs escape, rise into the air. Graceful daisies bob their calm, knowing faces in affirmation. A perky little chipmunk perches on a rock beside a clump of swaying grasses, nibbling a celebratory seed in honor of my pause.
The earth lies solid and cool beneath me while the sky opens infinitely above. I’m deaf to the
lapping melody of the waves, and yet a water-song whispers deep in my memory.
I watch the clouds, and study a tiny one that invites me
with silent breath to ascend and join it in that high place. And so we float in
tandem, easy and free, until it drifts from sight - and then I rise and return
to my blessings.
