Our trick-or-treating grandkid-gang represented diverse
personalities: a sunflower gone psychedelic with bright red petals; a tiny blue
shark with a human head sticking out the mouth; two princess-fairies with wings
(and winter coats and snow boots); a Great Pumpkin; a green bean or chili
pepper, take your pick; and a gentleman in a black cape – I don’t know his
exact identity. One mama was
dressed as Yoda (in a small child’s Yoda-like hat), and another, the mother of
the black cape guy, also wore a black cape. The Dad and teen-aged visitor went costume-less.
When the herd returned with pumpkin-pails full of candy, it
was time to eat dinner. A fire in the fireplace, strategically placed candles,
and fall-themed table decorations provided ambiance…for the adults. When you’re
a little kid, who wants dinner or candles or anything but the loot? When your very own chocolate is calling
from the plastic pumpkin, it’s hard to be interested in carrot sticks.
